Hefei Xinqiao Airport Customs seized 820 grams of clam products
Recently, during the supervision of an inbound flight, the customs at Hefei Xinqiao Airport, under the jurisdiction of Hefei Customs, discovered abnormalities in the image of a passenger's checked baggage during inspection. The customs officer immediately opened the box and inspected the luggage, and seized two suspected endangered clam products on the spot. After being appraised by professional institutions, the above-mentioned items were all products of the bivalve order, the family of giant clams, totaling 181 pieces, with a net weight of 820 grams. At present, the customs have filed a case and punished the parties involved in accordance with the law, and confiscated the above-mentioned involved clam products.
The Chinese giant clam is one of the largest bivalves in the ocean, listed as a national first-class protected animal and listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Its international trade is strictly controlled.
Hefei Xinqiao Airport Customs has anchored the dual wheel drive path of "technology empowerment+precise supervision" to continuously strengthen the national biosafety defense line. On the one hand, we will focus on improving the ability of machine inspection and image review, deepen the application of the "intelligent image review" system, and organize frontline customs officers to deeply learn the machine inspection imaging characteristics and recognition principles of endangered species and their products; On the other hand, efforts are being made to strengthen the foundation of manual inspection services, supervise customs officers to comprehensively grasp the basic knowledge of endangered species, and conduct accurate analysis and judgment based on information such as passenger travel trajectories and past inspection records. With the dual guarantee of "civil defense+technical defense", the efficiency of endangered species supervision at ports is effectively improved, and the ecological security of the country's borders is resolutely safeguarded.
