The first batch of imported cherries by sea freight in the new production season arrived at Nansha, Guangzhou

On December 6th, accompanied by the sound of the whistle, a "Cherry Express" cargo ship loaded with 369 containers and weighing over 7800 tons of Chilean cherries slowly docked at the Phase II terminal of Nansha Port in Guangzhou. This is the first batch of imported cherries by sea freight to Nansha Port in Guangzhou since the 2025 to 2026 cherry production season in the southern hemisphere, and also the first batch of imported cherries by sea freight to Nansha Port in China during the new production season.

From November to February of the following year, it is the season for cherries to be launched in the southern hemisphere, coinciding with the peak consumption season of New Year's Day and Spring Festival in China. Over 90% of Chilean cherries enter the Chinese market every year.

The variety of cherries imported this time is' Santina ', which belongs to early maturing varieties with large fruits and moderate sweetness. After customs clearance, the goods are mainly sent to the Jiangnan fruit wholesale market. In addition to local sales in Guangzhou, they will also be distributed to multiple cities across the country. Lu Zhan, the customs director of Guangdong Yulonghui Supply Chain Co., Ltd., introduced that the imported cherries in the current market are mainly imported by air and have a relatively high price. Compared to air freight, sea freight imports cherries have a larger capacity and a more affordable price. With the support of holidays such as New Year's Day and Spring Festival, Chilean cherries will usher in the peak sales season in China.

In order to promote the fast customs clearance of imported fresh fruits such as cherries and ensure their freshness and quality, Nansha Customs under Guangzhou Customs has specially formulated a customs clearance guarantee plan for imported cherries during the season. While strictly controlling the quarantine of imported fruits, it actively connects and understands the import plan of importers. In the process of document review, inspection, laboratory testing, certificate issuance, etc., a dedicated person is arranged to provide one-stop customs clearance services, realizing the "ship unloading and goods inspection" of imported cherries.

Guangzhou Nansha Port is the largest import port for cherries in China. During the 'Cherry Season', the import volume of cherries is large and the clearance time requirement is high. In order to do a good job in cherry clearance supervision, we have learned in advance about the enterprise's plan for chartering ships to enter the country, guided enterprises to make good use of convenient measures such as' advance declaration 'and' conditional departure '. When imported cherries are inspected at the port without any abnormalities and the admission risk is controllable, enterprises can first remove the goods, fully ensuring the safe and efficient clearance of imported cherries. "Yang Fajia, Deputy Director of the Cold Chain Supervision Department of Nansha Port Phase III of Nansha Customs, said that based on the information obtained from previous visits and research on relevant enterprises, it is expected that there will be a total of 19' Cherry Express' ships in the new production season. The cargo ship and over 10000 containers of imported Chilean cherries have arrived at Nansha Port in Guangzhou, During peak hours, nearly 1000 containers of Chilean cherries arrive at the port every week.
