The 2025 National WTO Work Conference was held in Beijing

On December 3-4, the 2025 National WTO Work Conference was held in Beijing.

The meeting thoroughly studied and implemented the spirit of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the important speeches of General Secretary Xi Jinping, comprehensively summarized the main achievements and experiences of China's WTO work since the 2024 National WTO Work Conference, systematically analyzed the new situation and new tasks currently faced, studied and planned the work goals of the WTO during the 15th Five Year Plan period, and focused on deploying the work tasks of the WTO in 2026. Li Chenggang, the International Trade Negotiation Representative (Ministerial Level) and Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Commerce, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

The meeting pointed out that in the past year, the multilateral trading system has been severely impacted by unilateralism and protectionism. China actively plays a leading role in promoting members to issue firm initiatives to uphold multilateralism in the World Trade Organization, pushing for the entry into force of the Fisheries Subsidies Agreement, taking the lead in piloting the WTO Electronic Commerce Agreement in Beijing, issuing policy documents to further strengthen trade policy compliance, proactively announcing that it will not seek new special and differential treatment in current and future WTO negotiations, proposing steps and measures to promote WTO reform, steadily expanding institutional openness, and demonstrating its great power responsibility through practical actions.

The meeting emphasized the need to deeply understand the core requirements of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech on the work of the World Trade Organization, deeply study the connotation and essence of the "15th Five Year Plan" proposal on expanding the high-level opening-up strategy, accurately grasp the latest situation of the World Trade Organization work, enhance the historical initiative spirit, explore innovation and practical responsibility, and promote new breakthroughs and achievements in the work of the World Trade Organization nationwide.

Comrades in charge of commerce departments from various provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government, and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps attended the meeting, as well as officials from relevant departments of central and state organs, research institutions, and business associations.
