Minister Wang Wentao Meets with US Ambassador to China David Pompeo

On November 20th, Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao met with US Ambassador to China David Pompeo. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on issues such as China US economic and trade relations.

Wang Wentao stated that on October 30th, the heads of state of China and the United States held a meeting in Busan, South Korea.   Economy and trade should continue to be the cornerstone and driving force of China US relations, rather than stumbling blocks and points of conflict. China is willing to work with the United States to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state. Both sides should establish a correct understanding that the two countries must coexist and achieve win-win results, maintain the China US economic and trade consultation mechanism, control uncertain and unstable factors in economic and trade relations, compress the list of issues, lengthen the list of cooperation, and inject more stability and certainty into the two countries and the world economy.

Wang Wentao emphasized that last month, the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China approved the "15th Five Year Plan" proposal, outlining a new blueprint for China's social and economic development in the next five years. China's policies have stability and continuity. China will focus its efforts on managing its own affairs, promoting common prosperity for all people, and sharing development opportunities with the world.

Wang Wentao expressed concerns about unilateral tariffs, export controls, two-way investment restrictions, visa reviews, and restrictive clauses in US third-party economic and trade agreements. He clarified China's position on issues such as Anshi Semiconductor and exchanged views with the US on the implementation of the results of bilateral economic and trade consultations.
