Minister Wang Wentao delivers a written speech supporting the temporary implementation arrangement of the WTO's Electronic Commerce Agreement
On March 28th, the conveners of the WTO e-commerce negotiations, Australia, Japan, and Singapore, issued a joint press release in Yaound é, the capital of Cameroon, announcing the temporary implementation arrangements for the E-commerce Agreement. The ministers of China, the European Union, the Gambia, the United Arab Emirates and other participating parties to the agreement delivered written speeches expressing their support.
Minister Wang Wentao pointed out in his written speech that the WTO's Electronic Commerce Agreement has established a global framework for digital trade rules, which will effectively promote more inclusive and sustainable development of digital trade. China supports the timely implementation of the agreement and looks forward to the WTO playing a greater role in formulating digital trade rules.
The Electronic Commerce Agreement is an important negotiation achievement of the World Trade Organization in recent years. During the 14th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization, 66 members, including China, announced that while continuing to promote the inclusion of the agreement into the WTO legal framework, the agreement would come into effect through temporary arrangements. The above-mentioned members will each initiate domestic procedures, and the agreement will officially come into effect after 45 members deposit their acceptance documents.
