Editorial: The more turbulent the world becomes, the more prominent the necessity of China Russia cooperation becomes

 This will be President Putin's 25th visit to China, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China Russia strategic partnership, the 25th anniversary of the signing of the China Russia Treaty of Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation, and the launch of the China Russia Education Year. The strategic guidance of the two heads of state, as well as the accumulation of a series of significant historical milestones, will bring new strategic opportunities and strong cooperation momentum to the China Russia relationship, which is currently at its best in history.

Since the new era, no matter how the international situation changes, China and Russia have always been trusted strategic partners and fellow travelers on the path of development and revitalization. Why does the relationship between the two countries have such strong resilience and vitality?   The China Russia relationship has a strong endogenous driving force and unique strategic value, and is not targeted at any third party or influenced by any third party. The two countries view the development of bilateral relations as a long-term strategic choice rather than a stopgap measure. The two countries have achieved deep mutual trust and all-round cooperation through "shoulder to shoulder" and "back-to-back" interactions, without engaging in small circles of collusion. They have established a new type of major power relationship that goes beyond traditional military and political alliances, and set an example for exchanges between major powers and neighboring countries.

The leadership of the head of state is the greatest advantage and fundamental guarantee for the high-level development of China Russia relations.   The two heads of state have taken high-frequency interactions as the guiding principle for bilateral relations. From the joint statement on the new stage of the comprehensive strategic partnership signed in 2014, to the joint announcement of the development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Russia in the new era in 2019, and to the unanimous decision to extend the Treaty of Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between China and Russia in 2021, every upgrade of China Russia relations cannot be achieved without the guidance and strategic planning of the Chinese and Russian heads of state. President Putin's visit is a continuation of this strategic communication.

From a global perspective, China Russia cooperation has become a cornerstone in upholding international fairness and justice. Currently, the world has entered a new period of turbulence and change. As permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and responsible major powers, China and Russia bear particularly heavy responsibilities. The more turbulent the situation becomes, the more prominent the mature, stable, and resilient characteristics of China Russia relations become, and the necessity for both sides to strengthen strategic and all-round cooperation becomes more prominent. In the face of major international and regional issues, the two heads of state maintain close communication, advocate resolving differences through dialogue and consultation, and oppose interference in internal affairs, unilateral sanctions, and "long arm jurisdiction". Under multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the BRICS countries, and the G20, the two countries closely communicate and cooperate to safeguard the legitimate development rights and interests of countries in the global South, and jointly promote the construction of a more just and reasonable global governance system. History has repeatedly proven that as long as China and Russia firmly stand together, there will be more hope for international fairness and justice, more certainty in the century long changes, and more strength for human development and progress.

2026-2027 is the "China Russia Education Year", which is also the first national level theme year with education as the main theme in both countries. At present, more than 150 cooperative educational institutions and projects have been established between Chinese and Russian universities, achieving complementary advantages in educational resources. 15 similar university alliances gather over 800 universities, and the high school alliance gathers over 140 high schools. Ten years for trees, a hundred years for people. The understanding and friendship between young people are the deepest public opinion foundation of the intergenerational friendship between China and Russia. When they tell the stories of their own countries in each other's languages and form friendships as classmates on each other's campuses, the China Russia relationship has a long-lasting resilience that no external force can shake.

China and Russia are good neighbors who cannot be moved away, and they are also true friends who share weal and woe. This friendship can withstand the test, this cooperation can shoulder the heavy responsibility. This healthy, stable, and high-level strategic cooperation goes beyond the bilateral scope and injects valuable certainty and positive energy into the region and the world, becoming the "ballast stone" for maintaining peace and stability. Regardless of any changes in the future, China and Russia will move forward calmly, adding valuable stability and hope to the uncertain world with the certainty of their own relationship.
