Tianjin Port adds new Mexico route
On July 8th, under the supervision of Tianjin Xingang Customs, "MSC LORENA" set sail from Tianjin Port Eurasia International Container Terminal to Mexico, carrying mechanical and electrical products, daily necessities and other goods, marking the addition of a new route from Tianjin Port to Mexico.
This route is operated by Mediterranean Shipping (MSC), with a total of 7 5000 TEU container ships docked in Tianjin, South Korea, Mexico, and Tianjin, forming a closed-loop transportation route covering China, South Korea, and Mexico, with a focus on serving northern ports and the Mexican freight market.
In recent years, Mexico's demand for Chinese industrial products, components, and raw materials has continued to rise. According to statistics, the total trade volume between China and Mexico will reach 109.376 billion US dollars in 2025, and China will remain its second largest trading partner and main source of imports. In the past, goods sent to the west coast of Mexico were mostly transshipped through Japan and South Korea, which took 28 to 32 days. The complex transit process and unstable shipping schedules pushed up the logistics and warehousing costs of enterprises.
The opening of this route has greatly optimized transportation efficiency, reducing sailing time by 8 to 12 days, and is currently one of the fastest shipping routes from North China to Mexico. This route connects the three core ports of Manzanillo, Lhasa Rocardenas, and Ensenada in Mexico, achieving multi port linkage and rapid distribution of goods, significantly improving the logistics connectivity throughout Mexico and Central America. The landing of the new route will further enrich the Latin American route layout of Tianjin Port, and is expected to add 60000 TEUs of export volume to Tianjin Port every year.
The new shipping route has stable schedules and precise two-way cargo flow to meet the industrial needs of China and Mexico. Export goods such as electronics and automotive parts from North China are quickly transported directly, effectively reducing logistics costs for enterprises. The route synchronously guarantees the import of high-quality goods such as copper and zinc ore products, avocados, berries, and tequila. The stable supply of transportation capacity provides solid support for enterprises in the Beijing Tianjin Hebei and the 'Three North' regions to carry out normalized two-way import and export trade, "said Wang Zixin, Deputy Director of the Export Documents Department of the Shipping Department of China Tianjin Ocean Shipping Agency Co., Ltd.
Tianjin Xingang Customs relies on the coordination mechanism of "customs, port, goods, and enterprises" to streamline the supervision process of the entire chain of ocean freight, clarify the responsibilities of all parties, and make preparations for rapid customs clearance, fully ensuring the smooth implementation of this business.
We provide comprehensive support throughout the process, proactively liaising with port departments, shipping companies, and agency enterprises to accurately grasp ship navigation plans and import and export manifest information. We arrange dedicated personnel to follow up on manifest data transmission, ensuring timely and accurate declaration, and synchronously preparing for rapid inspection and release. We strive to provide enterprises with a convenient and efficient customs clearance experience, "said Qu Yantao, head of the Single Tube Science Department at the Logistics Monitoring Department of Tianjin Xingang Customs.
