Recently, Huangdao Customs under Qingdao Customs intercepted one nationally protected animal, the color changing tree lizard, in an imported air container.
Customs officers found traces of reptile activity inside the imported empty container during on-site inspection. After thorough inspection, one lizard was found with dark spots on its back and a body length of about 40cm. After identification, the captured lizard was identified as a color changing tree lizard.
The color changing tree lizard is mainly distributed in countries such as Afghanistan and Pakistan, and is also found in Yunnan, Guangdong, Guangxi and other places in China. It is a nationally protected species listed in the "List of Terrestrial Wildlife with Important Ecological, Scientific and Social Value". At present, the color changing tree lizard has been handed over to the local natural resources department.
According to the relevant provisions of the Wildlife Protection Law of the People's Republic of China, the introduction of wild animal species from overseas shall be approved by the competent department of wildlife protection under the State Council. For the sale and utilization of terrestrial wildlife and locally protected wildlife and their products with important ecological, scientific, and social value, legal source certificates such as hunting, artificial breeding, import and export should be provided.
