Recently, Yantai Customs officers under Qingdao Customs seized 886 insect specimens in inbound express shipments.
During the on-site inspection of imported parcels, customs officers found that the inspection images of three batches of declared products named "toys" were abnormal. After opening the boxes for inspection, it was discovered that a total of 886 insect specimens had been preliminarily processed, fixed on cardboard with plastic film and stored in plastic boxes. Upon opening, there was a strong and pungent smell of chemicals.
After identification, the insect specimens seized by the customs include more than 30 species such as the Goliathan Bighorn Golden Turtle subspecies, the Polifimeng Flower Golden Turtle Central African subspecies, and the Savigi long horned Golden Turtle, which are mostly distributed in Africa and Southeast Asia.
Unquarantined animal specimens may carry harmful foreign organisms such as bacteria and parasites. According to the "List of Animals, Plants, Their Products, and Other Quarantine Items Prohibited from Carrying or Sending into the People's Republic of China", animal specimens are prohibited from being carried or sent into the country without approval and permission from the competent administrative department of China.
At present, the customs have temporarily detained the batch of insect specimens in accordance with regulations. (Zhang Han/Text)
