China has been the world's second-largest import market for 17 consecutive years

Beijing, February 5th (Reporter Luo Shanshan) It was learned from the Ministry of Commerce on the 5th that by 2025, China's import scale will reach 18.5 trillion yuan, becoming the world's second largest import market for 17 consecutive years. China has achieved growth in imports from over 130 countries and regions, and has become a major export destination for nearly 80 countries.

On February 4th, the first event of "Sharing the Big Market and Exporting to China" was held in Beijing. The Ministry of Commerce stated that holding the "Export to China" series of activities is a proactive move by China to actively expand its independent opening-up and promote global openness and cooperation. In 2026, the Ministry of Commerce will organize over a hundred diverse import promotion activities. In our work, we will strengthen the linkage between "exporting to China" and "buying in China", build more scenarios for promoting consumption through imported goods, and enable high-quality imported products and services to "come in" and "sell well".

Next, the Ministry of Commerce will promote the dual wheel drive of "policies+activities" to better unleash the potential of the Chinese market. Accelerate the implementation of the 100% zero tariff policy for 53 African countries with diplomatic relations through the signing of the Joint Development Partnership Agreement. Promote the signing or upgrading of free trade agreements, and orderly expand market access. Research and introduce special policies to further improve the facilitation level of import trade, optimize the sources and regional structure of imported goods, and promote a positive interaction between imports, investment, and consumption. Continue to hold the CIIE well, promote the brand of "exporting to China", and expand imports with greater efforts and more practical measures.
