Xi'an Airport will have over 2 million inbound and outbound passengers by 2025

Since 2025, the number of passengers clearing customs at Xi'an Airport Port has continued to rise. As of December 20, 2025, the annual number of inbound and outbound personnel at the port has exceeded 2 million, with a significant year-on-year increase. Among them, the number of passengers taking "through flights" and "transfer flights" and choosing to enter and exit from Xi'an, with their origin and destination at airports in other provinces and cities in China, has increased significantly, becoming a major highlight of this year's inbound and outbound passenger flow.
This growth is inseparable from policy support and continuous optimization of customs clearance services. By 2025, Xi'an Xianyang Airport Customs, under the jurisdiction of Xi'an Customs, will actively implement relevant policies, vigorously expand the coverage of connecting flight services, support multiple airlines to add and expand connecting routes, complete the filing of 17 "international connecting flight" routes at Xi'an Airport Port, connect more than 70 domestic connecting stations, and achieve a business coverage rate of 23.6%. In the first 11 months of 2025, the customs service guarantees 1133 international flights and 40094 international passengers; Completed the filing of 13 international stopover routes, provided services for 2699 international stopover flights, and handled 265600 passengers, an increase of 96% and 142.1% year-on-year, respectively.
In the past, to apply for a quarantine certificate, one had to travel between the office, customs, and apron with paper documents. If the data was incorrect, one had to turn back and modify it. Often, the certificate could only be delivered to the plane a few minutes before takeoff. Now, through the international trade 'single window', it can be completed in three minutes, saving time and effort, "said Li Jian, General Manager of Long Dragon Airlines Xi'an Branch. In December 2025, Xi'an Xianyang Airport Customs officially launched the "Digital Quarantine Certificate", realizing the full process of "cloud application, cloud issuance, and cloud collection", greatly improving the efficiency of aircraft clearance and providing assistance for enterprises to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
The "through flight" mode has brought tangible convenience to transit passengers. Passengers can complete the entire flight and baggage check-in procedures at the departure station in one go, and do not need to retrieve their luggage upon arrival at the transfer station, achieving "baggage direct check-in". At the International 03 Transfer Area of Terminal T5 at Xi'an Xianyang International Airport, passengers can quickly complete the verification process through intelligent devices such as facial recognition. Checked baggage is automatically transferred to the connecting flight after being monitored by the customs backend, truly achieving "worry free check-in and transfer".
In terms of enhancing the passenger clearance experience, Xi'an Xianyang Airport Customs empowers regulatory services with technology, focuses on further improving the efficiency of entry and exit personnel at the airport port, and coordinates the upgrade of the intelligent supervision system. At Xi'an Xianyang International Airport, CT machines, intelligent gates and other equipment are widely used, and the integrated technology of "early machine inspection+facial recognition+luggage tracking" is gradually promoted, achieving "non-invasive and contactless" customs clearance for passengers and effectively reducing waiting time.
At present, Xi'an Airport has established air traffic with 40 cities in 24 countries (regions) around the world, and 27 domestic and foreign airlines operate a total of 62 regular inbound and outbound routes, a year-on-year increase of 51.2%. With the expansion of the airline network and the improvement of the intelligent customs clearance system, Xi'an Airport Port is opening up to the outside world with a more efficient and convenient customs clearance environment and high-level services, building a smoother "Air Silk Road" for passengers.
