The Joint Steering Committee Meeting of the United Nations Framework for Sustainable Development Cooperation with China was held in Beijing
On January 27th, the Joint Steering Committee meeting of the 2026 United Nations Framework for Sustainable Development Cooperation with China was held in Beijing. Jiang Chenghua, Deputy Representative of the Ministry of Commerce for International Trade Negotiations, and Chang Qide, United Nations Coordinator in China, co chaired the meeting. Representatives from 18 United Nations agencies in China, including the Office of the United Nations Coordinator in China, the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Children's Fund, the United Nations Population Fund, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, as well as 21 Chinese units such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Development and Reform Commission, attended the conference.
This provides strategic guidance for China's cooperation with the United Nations. In the past five years, China and various UN agencies have overcome a series of major difficulties and challenges at the global and regional levels, and achieved positive results in promoting the implementation of the Cooperation Framework. Both parties jointly planned the key areas of cooperation in the new cycle and reached consensus, clarifying the roadmap for cooperation in the next five years.
Jiang Chenghua pointed out that the Ministry of Commerce will continue to promote pragmatic cooperation between China and various UN agencies to jointly implement the four global initiatives. It is hoped that the two sides will implement the Cooperation Framework of the new cycle, design and implement practical cooperation projects in social security, digital economy, green transformation, rural revitalization, environmental governance and other aspects around the key areas of the "15th Five Year Plan", help realize Chinese path to modernization, share Chinese experience, and support the common development of countries in the global South.
Chang Qide stated that the United Nations system in China is willing to work with China to firmly support multilateralism, actively align with the 15th Five Year Plan, strengthen cooperation in the new cycle, and enhance the well-being of the Chinese people. We hope that both sides can further deepen South South cooperation and jointly promote the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
