Customs clearance at Jilong Port in Xizang has been resumed

On January 1, 2026, with the successful completion of the temporary steel bridge, the Jilong Port, which had temporarily suspended customs clearance due to natural disasters, officially resumed the customs clearance of goods and personnel, revitalizing its past bustling vitality in the new year.

The Jilong Port in China is connected to the Resowar Port in Nepal, serving as one of the main channels for political, economic, and cultural exchanges between China and Nepal. It is also a key hub for promoting economic development in the border areas of Xizang and deepening the good-neighborly and friendly cooperation between China and Nepal. On July 8, 2025, due to the impact of a massive mountain flood disaster, the port clearance was forced to be suspended, and it has been reopened until now.

To ensure the smooth resumption of customs clearance at the port, Jilong Customs, which is under Lhasa Customs, rose to the challenge and coordinated with relevant port departments to comprehensively promote preparations for post-disaster reconstruction, supervision facility support, and personnel capacity enhancement, laying a solid foundation for the safe and efficient reopening of the port.

Deng Zhuyu Jia, Deputy Director of Gyirong Customs, stated that Gyirong Port has always been an important channel for China-Nepal trade. The reopening of the port will further promote economic and personnel exchanges between the two countries and bring development dividends to the prosperity of border residents. In the next step, Gyirong Customs will aim to "enhance efficiency, coordinate efforts, and facilitate the public," continuously strengthen the construction of a smart customs, deepen the in-depth guidance of "one enterprise, one policy" and "one product, one policy," promote convenient customs clearance for passengers and goods, and facilitate high-quality development and high-level opening up of the port, in order to better serve cross-border economic and trade exchanges and cultural exchanges.

According to customs statistics, on the day of reopening, Jilong Port supervised a total of 425 passengers and 64 vehicles entering and exiting the country, with a supervised cargo volume of 482.8 tons and a cargo value of RMB 15.6678 million.
