Guangzhou Customs seized 121 Ambra's Paraguayan catfish

Recently, Guangzhou Customs seized a case of smuggling alien species by fishing boats in the waters of the the Pearl River Estuary, and 121 Paraguayan catfish of Ambra's family were found on the scene.

When Dachan Customs affiliated to Guangzhou Customs and Dachan Anti smuggling Branch conducted cruise inspection in the waters of the the Pearl River Estuary, they found that a fishing boat was abnormal, and immediately organized a chase. After stopping the fishing boat and taking it back to the anchorage for inspection, three bags of live fish were found on the fishing boat, totaling 121. This batch of fish has a unique morphology, with a mouth shaped like a suction cup and pectoral and pelvic fins spread out nearly horizontally, which is significantly different from common fish in the surrounding waters and may be suspected of being transported into the country from overseas. After identification by technical institutions, it has been confirmed that the above-mentioned fish is the Ambra Paraguay catfish.

The Ambra's Paraguayan catfish is native to South America and has no natural distribution within China. It is an invasive species. According to the Biosafety Law of the People's Republic of China, the Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine Law of the People's Republic of China, and their implementing regulations, it is not allowed to introduce alien species without approval, and it is prohibited to bring or deliver live animals and plants into the country.
