China Guomen Times: Ningbo Port Expansion Project Passes National Acceptance smoothly

Recently, the Ningbo Port Expansion and Opening Project has successfully passed the national acceptance, taking a solid step on the road to serving national strategies and enhancing global competitiveness.
This acceptance involves five projects, including berth 1 in Chuanshan Port Area, Xinle Shipyard and Dazhongzhuang Wharf in Xiangshan Port Area, Xingang Wharf in Shipu Port Area, and China Supply and Marketing Group Wharf. After passing the national acceptance, the eight major port areas of Ningbo Port have achieved full area opening, with an additional open area of 58.13 square kilometers and an open shoreline of 1894 meters. It is expected that the annual container throughput capacity will be 620000 TEUs and the cargo throughput capacity will be 3 million tons, injecting strong impetus into the high-quality development of the regional economy.
The expansion and opening up of ports will further strengthen the resilience of the supply chain. As a professional container berth with a construction scale of 70000 tons, berth 1 in Chuanshan Port Area has a total length of 330 meters and a width of 55 meters. It was first approved for temporary opening to the public in January 2022. As of the end of November 2025, berth 1 in Chuanshan Port Area has completed a cumulative foreign trade cargo throughput of 15.0742 million tons and a container volume of 1.8879 million TEUs. The official opening of this berth will continue to alleviate the pressure of insufficient berths and long waiting times for internal vessels at Ningbo Zhoushan Port.
The expansion and opening up of ports will also promote the deep integration of port industry and city. Xiangshan Port Area and Shipu Port Area are important functional blocks in the construction of the national level Ningbo Marine Economy Development Demonstration Zone. The formal opening of the two port areas effectively fills the opening gap in the southern wing of Ningbo Zhoushan Port.
Zhejiang Xinle Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. is one of the five projects that passed the national acceptance this time. The relevant person in charge of the company introduced: "Previously, ships built by Xinle Shipyard could only be delivered from Xiangshan Port Area to Shipu Port Area. After opening up, we will become the only open port for ship repair in Ningbo, achieving true 'doorstep' delivery. Ningbo will also have the first ship repair terminal, filling the gap of no ship repair terminal in Ningbo. The delivery time of each ship will be shortened by 2 days, saving about 200000 yuan in tugboat charter and other costs. At the same time, we can undertake international ship repair business of about 1.5 million deadweight tons annually, earning 200 million to 350 million yuan in foreign exchange
In addition to further promoting the development of high-end shipbuilding industry, the official opening of Xiangshan Port Area and Shipu Port Area has positive significance for expanding the import of edible aquatic animals such as Russian king crabs, continuing to export live fish to South Korea, and engaging in offshore fishing. At the same time, it also injects strong impetus into the development of marine aquaculture industry, building an international aquatic cold chain logistics base, and deepening small-scale trade with Taiwan.
In the early stage, in order to promote the official opening of Xiangshan Port Area and Shipu Port Area, Ningbo Customs, together with the port management departments of Zhejiang Province and Ningbo City, strengthened guidance and adopted the "one terminal, one policy" measure based on the objective conditions and business expectations of the terminal, and put forward the demand for regulatory facility construction. Next, Ningbo Customs will effectively play its functional role, guide the port area to do a good job in the construction of customs inspection infrastructure and core public health capabilities, and assist Zhejiang in promoting high-level opening up to the outside world and building a high-level open province.
