The US economy grew by 4.3% in the third quarter of 2025
New York, December 23 (Xinhua) -- The first estimated data released by the US Department of Commerce on the 23rd showed that the US gross domestic product (GDP) in the third quarter of this year increased by 4.3% year-on-year, higher than the 3.8% growth rate in the second quarter.
The Ministry of Commerce stated that the accelerated economic growth in the third quarter was mainly due to the acceleration of consumer spending growth, as well as an increase in exports and government spending. Data shows that personal consumption expenditure, which accounts for about 70% of the total US economy, increased by 3.5% in the quarter, government consumption expenditure and investment increased by 2.2%, and exports increased by 8.8%. Non residential fixed assets investment, which reflects the investment status of enterprises, only increased by 2.8% in the quarter, significantly lower than 7.3% in the previous quarter.
Due to negative economic growth in the first quarter of this year, economic growth in the fourth quarter is expected to significantly slow down due to factors such as the federal government shutdown. Multiple research institutions predict that the US economic growth rate will be 2% or lower in 2025.
The US Department of Commerce typically estimates quarterly economic data three times based on continuously improving information.
