The spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce answered questions from reporters regarding China's lawsuit against India for tariff measures on information and communication products and photovoltaic subsidies at the World Trade Organization

Some media asked: It is reported that China has sued India for tariff measures on information and communication products and photovoltaic subsidy measures at the World Trade Organization. Could you please introduce the specific situation?

Answer: On December 19th, China requested consultations with India at the World Trade Organization regarding tariff measures on Indian information and communication products and photovoltaic subsidy measures.

The measures taken by the Indian side are suspected of violating multiple obligations such as WTO bound tariff rates and national treatment, and constitute import substitution subsidies that are explicitly prohibited by the WTO. These measures give India an unfair competitive advantage in its domestic industry and harm China's interests.

This is another firm measure taken by China to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of domestic industries, following its lawsuit against India for electric vehicle and battery subsidy measures. We once again urge the Indian side to abide by its commitments in the World Trade Organization and immediately correct its erroneous practices.
