Weihai Customs seized 7.5 kilograms of fresh sea cucumber illegally brought into the country

Recently, Weihai Customs, a subsidiary of Qingdao Customs, seized 7.5 kilograms of fresh sea cucumber illegally carried by passengers through the airport travel inspection and entry channel.

During the supervision of the luggage items of passengers on the inbound flight, the on-site customs officer found that the machine inspection image of the luggage items of a passenger who chose the "no declaration channel" for clearance was abnormal, suspected to contain aquatic animal products. After unpacking and inspection, 10 fresh sea cucumbers, totaling 7.5 kilograms, were seized.

According to the "List of Animals, Plants, Their Products, and Other Quarantine Items Prohibited from Carrying or Sending into the People's Republic of China", aquatic animal products are prohibited from carrying or sending into the country, except for edible sauce aquatic animal products made by drying, cooking, or fermentation. However, animals, plants, their products, and other quarantine items imported through carrying or sending are not restricted by this list if they have been approved and licensed by the relevant administrative department of the country and have a quarantine certificate issued by the official institution of the exporting country or region. Due to the inability of the passenger to provide approval permits and quarantine certificates issued by the official institutions of the exporting country, the customs has now issued a deadline for the return of the above-mentioned items.
