In the first 10 months, the import scale of cassava and cassava starch in Fujian Province ranked first in the country

Cassava and cassava starch are important ingredients for the "pearls" in pearl milk tea that are popular all over the world. Cassava is abundant in tropical regions and is one of the world's important food crops. It is known as the "king of starch" and is widely used in industries such as food, chemical, and pharmaceutical. Fujian Province is an important importing province for cassava and cassava starch, and also gathers a complete industrial chain of multiple industries such as starch and food deep processing. The demand for cassava and cassava starch imports is strong. According to statistics from Fuzhou Customs, in the first 10 months of this year, the import of cassava and cassava starch in Fujian Province reached 3.97 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 40%, accounting for 21.3% of the national import value of similar products during the same period, and ranking first in the country in terms of import scale.

ASEAN is a major global producer of cassava. In the first 10 months, Fujian Province imported all cassava and cassava starch from ASEAN, with Thailand and Vietnam being the main sources of imports. In the first 10 months, Fujian Province imported cassava and cassava starch worth 2.04 billion yuan and 1.66 billion yuan respectively from Thailand and Vietnam, an increase of 76.6% and 9.5%, respectively. The two accounted for 93% of the total value of cassava and cassava starch imports in Fujian Province during the same period.

Private enterprises and state-owned enterprises are the main force in the import of cassava and cassava starch in Fujian Province. In the first 10 months, they imported 2.71 billion yuan and 1.25 billion yuan respectively, an increase of 68.5% and 2.9%, respectively.
