The trade of agricultural and food products has become a new highlight of economic and trade exchanges between Shanghai and the "the Belt and Road" countries. According to the latest data from Shanghai Customs, in the first three quarters of this year, the amount of food imported by Shanghai ports from the "the Belt and Road" countries reached 135.34 billion yuan, up 15.5% year on year, showing a strong growth momentum.

The "the Belt and Road" runs through more than 150 countries and regions in Eurasia and Africa, including rich fruit resources. China is the world's largest fruit consumer. Benefiting from the many conveniences created by the "the Belt and Road" initiative, more and more high-quality fruits from the "the Belt and Road" countries are entering the fruit trays of Chinese families. Shanghai is the main port for fruit import in China. In the first three quarters of this year, the port imported 1.495 million tons of dry and fresh fruits and nuts from the "the Belt and Road" countries, up 17.8% year on year.

To ensure smooth customs clearance of imported fruits, Shanghai Customs has implemented convenient measures such as opening a "green channel" for fresh fruits, unaccompanied inspection, "7 × 24 hour" appointment clearance, and no appointment inspection mode to ensure that imported fresh fruits are inspected and released immediately, achieving "seamless" customs clearance.

Full traceability

Recently, a batch of imported coffee beans from Colombia were successfully released under the supervision of Hongkou Customs, a subsidiary of Shanghai Customs. Colombia, located in South America, joined the high-quality "the Belt and Road" family in May this year. As the world's third-largest coffee producer, Colombian coffee beans are renowned worldwide for their unique flavor and high quality. This Colombian coffee bean will be introduced for the first time in 2024 under the name 'Little Trial Bull Knife'. We are very optimistic about the development prospects of the Shanghai coffee market and hope to become the new favorite of the Magic City coffee industry, "said Hu Meifang, Business Manager of Shanghai Jisheng Trading Co., Ltd., an importer.

In order to ensure the smooth supply chain of imported coffee beans, Hongkou Customs has organized relevant department business backbones to actively provide advanced services and carry out import food policy lectures for enterprises, combining the enterprise's "service package" system, "customs chief delivery policy door-to-door" work, etc., to solve personalized demands of enterprises from policy consultation, business processes, customs clearance guidance, and other aspects.

According to statistics, by 2024, the number of coffee shops in Shanghai will exceed 9000, making it the city with the highest number of coffee shops in the world. At the International Coffee Port located on the second floor of the Hongqiao Import Commodities Exhibition and Trading Center (Hongqiao Pinhui), there are more than 200 coffee industry suppliers online and offline, and more than 100 "seed to cup" coffee exhibitors from 60 countries around the world, including 47 coffee bean exhibitors from countries that have jointly built the "the Belt and Road", driving a trade volume of 3 billion yuan.

"Relying on the bonded exhibition transaction mode, we can directly enter the bonded exhibition area of Hongqiao International Coffee Port to display the imported coffee beans, significantly reducing the cost of capital occupation for enterprises. Enterprises can achieve zero delay docking through the 'bonded warehouse direct connection live broadcast room', and quickly promote trade cooperation." Zhou Yan, head of the logistics monitoring section of Xinzhuang Customs under Shanghai Customs, introduced that "through access to the 'the Belt and Road' digital coffee industry chain, the use of blockchain technology can realize the chain storage of coffee beans from planting to customs clearance, combined with the 'commodity barcode+traceability code' dual code traceability system, to ensure that the quality of coffee beans can be traced throughout the whole process, help enterprises to introduce more high-quality coffee into the domestic market, and inject new energy into the high-quality development of Shanghai coffee industry"
