Laying a Development Path in the Wide Asia Pacific - China's Practice of Promoting Regional Common Prosperity

In the vast Pacific Ocean, waves converge into surging waves.

The Asia Pacific region is an important engine of global economic growth. APEC is the most important economic cooperation mechanism in the Asia Pacific region. How can economies in the Asia Pacific region jointly address global challenges, build consensus on unity and cooperation among all parties, and plan for a new chapter in regional development? The international community is looking forward to listening again to China's wisdom in promoting economic growth and open cooperation in the Asia Pacific region, and working together with the world to address risks and challenges through China's solutions.

Promote win-win cooperation through openness and integration

The Qiankai Port in Peru is about to celebrate its official one-year anniversary of opening. This South American first smart green port extends the "Inca Trail of the New Era" to the other side of the ocean, opening up a new shipping route from Peru to China and neighboring countries, significantly promoting trade between China and Latin America, and becoming a vivid example of openness, integration, and win-win cooperation in the Asia Pacific region.

Mutual communication leads to progress, while mutual closure leads to retreat. Over the past 30 years, an important experience in the development of the Asia Pacific economy has been openness, inclusiveness, learning from each other's strengths and weaknesses, and mutual exchange. In the face of new risks and challenges brought by unilateralism, protectionism, and the "small courtyard high wall" to global development, unity, cooperation, and win-win development are the common aspirations of knowledgeable people in Asia Pacific economies.

Before the annual APEC Leaders' Informal Meeting, the APEC Business Advisory Council submits advisory reports to leaders of various economies, providing recommendations on the current trade situation and economic policies.

The 2025 report starts with "advocating open markets and opposing protectionism", expressing deep concerns about ongoing trade disruptions, protectionism, and global trade and financial uncertainty. The report proposes that the prosperity of the Asia Pacific region should be built on the basis of gradually opening up markets and achieving transparency and certainty through a rule-based multilateral trading system. These suggestions coincide with the consistent stance of the Chinese government.

The International Monetary Fund's "Asia Pacific Economic Outlook" released on October 24th also pointed out that the imposition of tariffs by some economies poses challenges to the trade pattern in the Asia Pacific region, and continuing to promote trade openness is the key to maintaining economic growth.

For decades, China has been a constructive force in promoting openness and integration in the Asia Pacific region. In the first three quarters of this year, China's imports and exports to other economies in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation increased by 2% year-on-year, reaching a scale of 19.41 trillion yuan, accounting for 57.8% of China's total import and export value.

Economist Peter Drysdale is the director of the East Asian Economics Institute at the Australian National University and was deeply involved in the establishment of APEC. He told reporters that in the face of unilateralism and protectionism threats, the Asia Pacific region cannot return to discriminatory trade arrangements, but must uphold the multilateral system, which is where the common interests of the region lie.

Transforming through innovation and sharing development opportunities

At the 22nd China ASEAN Expo held not long ago, the artificial intelligence system developed by Chinese enterprise Jiejiarun Technology Group Co., Ltd. opened the eyes of many viewers. This system and related technological products are like "pocket experts", with functions such as intelligent planting plan generation, recognition of crop diseases through images, fine management of farmland, and support for multiple languages such as Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.

At present, this system is helping to promote intelligent management of orchards in countries such as Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand. Let the land speak, and China's innovation has made all of this a reality, benefiting the Asia Pacific region.

In the face of a new round of global growth, only reformers advance, only innovators are strong, and only reformers and innovators win. In recent years, China has adhered to green transformation and technological innovation, and has always focused on development, continuously deepening economic and technological cooperation, and enhancing the independent development capabilities of developing economies in the Asia Pacific region.

We need to work together to improve global technology governance, strengthen the support of technological innovation for green digital transformation and sustainable development, and create an open, fair, just, and non discriminatory environment for technological development.

China is one of the economies with the fastest improvement in global innovation capability, with its global innovation index ranking rising from 34th in 2012 to 10th in 2025. From the "world factory" to the "innovation highland", more and more Asia Pacific and global multinational corporations are using China as their global research and development center, leveraging the advantages of the Chinese market's rapid application and iteration of new technologies to serve their global layout.

While promoting its own high-quality development, China also actively shares the fruits of transformation and development with developing countries. Chinese technology and solutions are constantly being transformed into actions and achievements, contributing to the common prosperity of the region.

At the 22nd East Expo, a total of 62 projects covering new energy, artificial intelligence, and chemical new materials were successfully signed at the advanced technology exhibition signing ceremony. This batch of projects not only includes technology introduction, but also emphasizes joint research and development, reflecting the comprehensive upgrade of China ASEAN scientific and technological cooperation from single product trade to full industry chain collaborative innovation.

During the 19th Pan American Games, Chinese made double decker electric buses were put into use to transport a large number of local Chileans to various sports venues in Santiago, injecting "green energy" into this sports event.

Dai Erbiao, director of the Japan Asia Growth Institute, stated that China is currently the world's factory and the most important market globally, as well as one of the most important centers for technological innovation. Herman Laurel, director of the Philippines' "Asian Century" Strategic Research Institute, also believes that China has opened up new frontiers and opportunities in the development of its supply chain through high-tech innovation and green economy, benefiting Asia Pacific economies.

Seeking common prosperity through inclusiveness and inclusiveness

On September 29th of this year, the permanent demonstration base of China's aid to Papua New Guinea's mushroom grass upland rice project was officially completed in Goroka, the capital of Papua New Guinea's Eastern Highlands Province. This is another milestone in the poverty reduction cooperation between China and Papua New Guinea. Benefiting farmers in the surrounding area spontaneously rushed over, with hundreds of people singing and dancing, creating a lively atmosphere.

Whether it is the first mention of the "Asia Pacific Dream" by Yanqi Lake or the joint sowing of the seeds of the Putrajaya vision with all parties in Bangkok;

From promoting initiatives such as increasing residents' income and promoting cluster development of small and medium-sized enterprises in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), to welcoming members of the Asia Pacific family to join global development initiatives and deepening cooperation in poverty reduction, food security, industrialization, development financing, and other fields, China has always been an activist, continuously injecting momentum into the inclusive and inclusive development of the Asia Pacific economy.

Wu Yiping, President of the Malaysian Chinese Chamber of Commerce, said that against the backdrop of rising protectionism and a tightening global trade environment, China has always adhered to the concept of openness and inclusiveness, actively maintained the vitality and openness of the global trading system, and demonstrated the responsibility of a responsible major country.

Faced with the new reality of the world economic landscape, China actively participates in the reform of the global economic governance system, firmly safeguards the rights and interests of developing countries, enhances the representation and voice of countries in the global South, and promotes the development of international economic and trade rules in a more fair and reasonable direction. As stated by Sadia Zahidi, Executive Director of the World Economic Forum, in the context of increasing instability and uncertainty in global development, "China is an important force in upholding multilateralism, improving global governance, and promoting global cooperation.

The four global initiatives form an organic whole that promotes prosperity through development, ensures stability through security, enhances mutual trust through civilization, and seeks justice through governance. Liang Guoyong, a senior economist at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, said that the four global initiatives constitute a complete framework for global affairs, which helps promote world peace and development and enhance the well-being of people around the world.

The one who falls thinks of its tree, and the one who drinks its flow holds onto its source. China's development cannot be separated from the Asia Pacific region, and it will continue to take root in, build, and benefit the Asia Pacific region. Standing at a new historical starting point, China will work hand in hand with other economies in the Asia Pacific region to inject a continuous stream of Chinese momentum into the prosperity of the Asia Pacific region and the construction of an Asia Pacific community with a shared future.
