Trump signs memorandum to exclude Canadian products from US government procurement plan

New York, September 16 (Xinhua) -- According to the White House's announcement on the 16th, US President Trump signed a presidential memorandum on the same day, excluding products originating from Canada from the US government procurement plan.

According to the memo, Trump instructed the Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget and the United States Trade Representative, along with other departments, to identify and take all legally permissible measures to exclude products originating from Canada from the federal civil procurement system. The Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget should also inform other departments of information regarding domestic alternative products in the United States.

Trump also instructed the US Trade Representative to continue monitoring the treatment of US products in the procurement process of Canadian federal and provincial governments.

The memo states that the Canadian government's "Buy Canada" policy has set new barriers for American companies to enter the Canadian government procurement market, and Canadian provinces have also restricted American companies from entering local government procurement markets.

Trump recently announced on social media that Canadian products will be excluded from the US government procurement program until Canada restores "fair reciprocity" to American farmers and businesses.
