China Youth Daily: Qian Kaigang plays a prominent role, Peruvian bananas rush to Shanghai for fresh produce
According to Shanghai Customs, on September 2nd, the first batch of imported Peruvian bananas in China were inspected and supervised by Yangshan Customs under Shanghai Customs, and successfully cleared customs and entered the country. This is the first time that Peruvian fresh bananas have entered the Chinese market after obtaining access.
It is reported that a total of 19.6 tons of bananas were transported to Shanghai via the "Qiankai Shanghai" sea route. As a benchmark project for China and Peru to jointly build the "the Belt and Road", the "Qiankai Shanghai" maritime route has been opened since the end of 2024. As of September 1 this year, Shanghai Customs has supervised 355000 tons of import and export goods on the route, with a value of nearly 10 billion yuan. The number of goods categories has increased from 34 at the beginning of the voyage to 75. In the first seven months of this year, Shanghai Port imported a total of 41000 tons of Peruvian fruits, an increase of 4.4% year-on-year, accounting for 87.2% of the country's total imports.
In December 2025, the General Administration of Customs issued Announcement No. 234 of 2025, officially approving the quarantine access of fresh Peruvian bananas for export to China. At present, high-quality fresh fruits such as Peruvian blueberries, avocados, grapes, bananas, etc. have obtained quarantine access in China.
It is understood that Peruvian fruits cannot compete for "fresh" entry without efficient and smooth trade channels. As a benchmark project for China and Peru to jointly build the "the Belt and Road", the "Qiankai Shanghai" sea route has shortened the sea transportation time between China and Peru from 35 to 40 days to 23 days, saving more than 20% of logistics costs for enterprises and helping Peru's fresh fruits to be transported to the Chinese market quickly. Driven by this route, Shanghai's import and export value to Peru increased significantly by 31.1% in the first seven months of this year compared to the same period last year.
