China Chamber of Commerce for Machinery and Electronics: Supports the Ministry of Commerce in launching a national security investigation on foreign trade related products

On August 5, 2026, the Ministry of Commerce issued a notice to initiate a national security investigation into foreign trade related to imported printing and copying office equipment. The China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electrical Products (hereinafter referred to as the "Chamber") attaches great importance to and firmly supports the Ministry of Commerce in initiating investigations in accordance with the law, evaluating the impact of relevant imports on China's national security interests in foreign trade, and taking necessary measures as appropriate.

The China Chamber of Commerce for Machinery and Electronics has noticed that the Federal Communications Commission and the Department of Homeland Security of the United States have recently introduced a series of negative measures related to China, including multiple restrictive market access measures, which are extremely malicious in nature. At the same time, the US government has generalized the concept of national security, even including conventional products such as wood in the 232 investigation and imposing tariffs indiscriminately. The China Chamber of Commerce for Machinery and Electronics strongly opposes this.

The China Chamber of Commerce for Machinery and Electronics is concerned that printing and copying equipment, as key terminals for information input and output, is a fundamental equipment for social and economic operation, widely used in various fields. Necessary measures should be taken to ensure that the printing and copying equipment industry conforms to national security interests, which is of great significance for ensuring the healthy development of domestic related industries.
