The spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce answers questions from reporters on the European Commission's discussion on relations with China

Q: On May 29th, the European Commission held a meeting to discuss relations with China. What is the view of the Ministry of Commerce on this?

Answer: China has paid attention to the discussion on the EU's relationship with China. China and Europe are important economic and trade partners that are equal and mutually beneficial. We hope that the European side will abide by the rules of the World Trade Organization, adhere to free trade and fair competition, and firmly oppose protectionism and unilateralism.

The communication channels between China and Europe are smooth, and both sides are exploring the establishment of a trade and investment consultation mechanism and will engage in relevant dialogues. We hope that the European side and the Chinese side will work together to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both sides, resolve differences and frictions through dialogue and consultation, and promote the stable and healthy development of China EU economic and trade relations. If the European side insists on unilaterally introducing new trade tools and adopting discriminatory restrictions, China will resolutely counteract and take effective measures to safeguard its own interests.
