Global Development Initiative Theme Seminar focuses on promoting high-quality development through trade in services
Geneva, May 29 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Permanent Mission to Geneva held a global development initiative themed seminar on "Vigorously Promoting Service Trade and Promoting Global Development Cooperation" at the Palace of Nations in Geneva, Switzerland on the 28th.
Jia Guide, the Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, attended and delivered a speech. More than 140 people attended, including representatives from international organizations such as the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, permanent missions of various countries in Geneva, relevant research institutions, and enterprises.
Jia Guide stated that trade in services is an important force in promoting economic transformation and supporting developing countries to integrate into the global value chain. It is also an important area for China to implement global development initiatives. China is willing to rely on the Geneva multilateral platform to promote the deepening and implementation of global development initiatives, and strengthen cooperation with all parties around the formulation of service trade rules, digital innovation, green transformation, etc.
Acting Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Moreno, stated that the global development initiative has yielded fruitful results, and the conference has actively cooperated with China on data collection, policy research, and the China International Fair for Trade in Services. Zhang Xiangchen, Deputy Director General of the World Trade Organization, stated that the Global Development Initiative can help developing countries enhance their development capabilities and deepen their participation in service trade. Teng Bo, Deputy Executive Director of the International Trade Center, stated that the Global Development Initiative and the China International Trade Fair provide important opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises to connect with the Chinese market. China plays a leading role in developing service trade.
Representatives from the Service Trade Department of the Ministry of Commerce of China, the Exchange Center, and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Commerce respectively introduced China's service trade policies and the construction of the Service Trade Fair platform. All parties attending the meeting positively evaluated the global development initiative and generally expressed their willingness to continue to use service trade as a link to carry out pragmatic economic and trade cooperation with China.
