A spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce answers questions from reporters regarding the approval of testing and certification by the Federal Communications Commission and related restrictions in the telecommunications industry

Q: On April 30th Eastern Time, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States approved relevant restrictive measures, intending to cancel the qualifications of national testing and certification agencies that have not signed a "mutual recognition agreement" with the United States, and prohibit entities listed on the so-called "coverage list" from conducting telecommunications business in the United States. Subsequent measures will seek public opinion. What is the comment of the Ministry of Commerce on this?

Answer: The Federal Communications Commission of the United States abandons the principle of technological neutrality, generalizes the concept of national security, and frequently introduces restrictive measures without factual basis, discriminating against foreign companies and products, including China, seriously damaging the interests of China and other related trading partners. These restrictive measures undermine the hard won stability of China US economic and trade relations and go against the consensus reached by the two heads of state. China is highly concerned about this and firmly opposes it.

We have noticed that the Federal Communications Commission of the United States will also seek public opinion on the relevant restrictive measures. If ultimately implemented, it will seriously disrupt the international economic and trade order, disrupt the stability of the global industrial chain and supply chain in the fields of communication, electronics, and related industries, impact global industrial cooperation and technological innovation, and also harm the interests of the US industry and consumers, affecting the security of the US supply chain itself. We hope that the United States will heed the call of the industry, respect market rules, stop erroneous practices, and revoke relevant measures. If the US persists in its unilateral actions, China will resolutely take necessary measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
