Quick customs clearance reduces the sublimation loss of dry ice for export

On April 7th, 25 tons of dry ice produced by Rizhao Daily Henglengyuan Supply Chain Co., Ltd. were inspected and found to be qualified by Rizhao Customs officers under Qingdao Customs before being exported overseas by sea.

At present, the global cold chain, pharmaceutical, and food industries are developing rapidly, and the demand for low-temperature, environmentally friendly, and pollution-free dry ice in fresh cold chain, low-temperature transportation of pharmaceuticals, aviation catering, and seafood preservation continues to grow. At the same time, dry ice cleaning has no residue, does not damage equipment, and is environmentally friendly. It replaces traditional cleaning methods in industries such as automotive, electronics, molds, and printing, and the demand in overseas industrial markets is expanding.

It is understood that the company was originally a manufacturer of dry ice manufacturing equipment and began to experiment with manufacturing and exporting dry ice business in July 2025. Due to its high purity, hardness, and excellent quality, its dry ice products have quickly gained recognition in foreign markets.

Yang Chungang, the general manager of the company, introduced that dry ice will continuously sublimate after production. At room temperature, block dry ice loses 10% to 15% per day, and the loss is even faster in high temperature environments. Even with sealed packaging and cold chain transportation, there will still be about 5% loss per day. Therefore, trade settlement is generally based on the weight of the goods received by foreign customers. Excessive sublimation of the goods can cause losses to the enterprise, and export clearance procedures need to be processed as soon as possible.

In response to the characteristics of exported products, Rizhao Customs promptly guides enterprises to apply for appointment inspection mode. According to the application of the enterprise, the customs will conduct on-site inspection as soon as dry ice production is completed. Based on strict inspection of packaging, labels and other items, the customs will issue the "Identification Results Form for the Use of Export Dangerous Goods Transport Packaging" as soon as possible to ensure the safe and efficient export of dry ice.

From inspection to issuing the results, it only takes half a day, and the customs inspection process happens to replace the logistics waiting time for us to ship, "said Yang Chungang. Due to timely customs clearance, the sublimation volume of dry ice was significantly lower than the customer's expectations. We have signed a long-term supply contract with the company. Since the launch of dry ice export business, we have received orders for export every week. In the first three months of this year, the company exported 932.4 tons of dry ice.

China is the world's largest producer of dry ice, with a wide range of raw materials and stable supply for dry ice production. At the same time, by combining near port logistics, efficient customs clearance, and green policies, a comprehensive export advantage of "high quality, stable price, large quantity, and fast delivery" has been formed.

Chen Shigong, Deputy Director of Rizhao Customs, stated that he will continue to focus on customs supervision and service functions, constantly pay attention to the demands of enterprises, continuously optimize the customs supervision work mode, and improve the efficiency of customs clearance for imported and exported goods at ports while ensuring proper supervision, supporting foreign trade enterprises to expand into international markets.
