Wan Chai Customs seized 1.3 tons of smuggled foreign garbage

Recently, during a boarding inspection of an inbound vessel, customs officers from Wan Chai Customs under Gongbei Customs discovered 26 smuggled old batteries weighing approximately 1341 kilograms hidden beneath the deck anchor ropes and deck compartments. The crew of the ship intentionally covered and disguised it to evade customs supervision.

On March 6th, according to professional appraisal, the batch of old batteries belongs to foreign garbage prohibited from entering the country. At present, the case has been transferred to the anti smuggling department for criminal filing in accordance with the law. According to the Solid Waste Pollution Prevention and Control Law of the People's Republic of China and relevant regulations, those who illegally import foreign garbage into China shall be ordered by the customs to return it and fined in accordance with the law; Those who commit crimes will be held criminally responsible in accordance with the law.
