Ethiopian flower exporters welcome China's zero tariff measures
Addis Ababa, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Tewodros Zudi é, Executive Director of the Ethiopian Horticultural Producers and Exporters Association, recently stated that Ethiopian flower exporters welcome China's zero tariff measures, which will promote the export of their horticultural products to China and make the export market more diversified.
The 10th International Flora and Horticultural Trade Fair will be held from the 24th to the 26th in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. At a press conference held before the opening of the expo, Zudi é stated that Ethiopia is an important exporter of horticultural products in Africa, and the Chinese market provides billions of potential buyers for agricultural products from Africa. The opportunities in the Chinese market will help Ethiopia increase its foreign exchange earnings and create more job opportunities.
According to statistics from the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture, horticultural products are the second largest source of foreign exchange income in the country's agricultural sector, second only to coffee. In the previous fiscal year, the export revenue of horticultural products was approximately $565 million, providing employment opportunities for about 200000 Ethiopian people.
China will fully implement zero tariff measures on 53 African countries with diplomatic relations from May 1, 2026, while continuing to promote the signing of economic partnership agreements for common development, and further expanding the access of African products to China through upgrading the "green channel" and other measures.
