Qingdao made hybrid batteries for overseas loading
Recently, at the FAW Volkswagen East China Base located in Jimo, Qingdao, 17 hybrid batteries were inspected and qualified by customs officers before being loaded into a specially designed container for export to the European market.
The hybrid battery exported this time is FAW Volkswagen's first power battery component export project for overseas markets. It is not a single component, but a precision assembly that integrates 17 parts including battery assembly, converter, high and low voltage wiring harness, etc. It will be directly supplied to Volkswagen Group's global factories and installed on hybrid models.
We used to be a host factory and had to purchase components from the group to complete the production equipment of vehicles. Now we have become a supplier of the group and customize the production of power battery systems for the group, "said Long You, a planning engineer from the batch planning and industrial engineering department of FAW Volkswagen Qingdao Branch.
The export of power batteries involves complex international standards, dangerous goods transportation regulations, inspection processes, and strict supplier certification systems. Building an export system that meets international standards from scratch is a severe challenge faced by the project team.
After learning about the difficulties encountered by enterprises in developing new businesses, Jimo Customs, a subsidiary of Qingdao Customs, formed a team to tackle them and provide full process and professional support for enterprises. From export qualification processing, product testing guidance to dangerous goods packaging standards, they solved the difficulties of enterprises going abroad one by one.
We have arranged dedicated personnel to guide enterprises in sorting out the regulatory requirements for various specifications and models of products, conducting hazardous material element audits in advance, and implementing appointment clearance services to ensure that enterprises can clear customs quickly, "said Bi Jianhua, Deputy Director of the Inspection Department of Jimo Customs.
In addition, Jimo Customs also convenes regular training sessions for enterprises to provide guidance on the packaging, use, and transportation requirements of dangerous goods such as lithium batteries for export, helping enterprises to conduct export risk assessments, accurately pushing overseas market technology access requirements and warning notification information, and assisting enterprises in breaking down technical and trade barriers.
After signing the first lithium battery order, the customs guided us throughout the entire process of handling export procedures and product testing, and provided detailed explanations on the identification and transportation requirements of dangerous goods packaging for exported lithium batteries. Longyou explained that the entire complex process from production line transformation and debugging to small batch delivery only took 14 weeks.
We will base ourselves on the export needs of enterprises and provide support in interpreting technical and trade measures, dangerous goods transportation, and dangerous goods packaging guidance, to provide strong support for the high-quality development of the new energy industry. Xu Yang, Deputy Director of Jimo Customs, introduced that by 2025, Jimo Customs will have cumulatively supervised over 1.1 million lithium batteries, a year-on-year increase of 327.1%. Next, the customs will continue to optimize regulatory services to help more Qingdao new energy enterprises go abroad and participate in global competition. (Hao Ruoxian/Text)
