EU: 'Resolute response' if US violates trade agreement

Brussels, March 12 (Xinhua) -- In response to the US government's recent announcement of a new trade investigation into the European Union and other trading partners, the European Commission stated on March 12 that if the US violates the trade agreement previously reached between the two sides, the EU will make a "resolute and proportionate response".

European Commission spokesperson Olof Gill told the media at a regular press conference that the EU will request further clarification from the US on how the launch of the "301 clause" investigation will be coordinated with the agreement reached between the EU and the US last year.

Europe and America reached a trade agreement in July 2025. The EU needs to lift tariffs on US made industrial products and provide preferential market access for US seafood and agricultural products in exchange for the US imposing a 15% tariff on most EU exports to the US.
