The spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce answered questions from reporters regarding the anti-dumping investigation of imported p-nitrotoluene originating from the European Union

A reporter asked: We have noticed that the Ministry of Commerce has launched an anti-dumping investigation on imported p-nitrotoluene originating from the European Union today. Can you introduce the relevant information?

Answer: This survey was initiated in response to a domestic industry application. The preliminary evidence provided by the applicant shows that from 2022 to 2025, the quantity of p-nitrotoluene products imported from Europe remained high, with a cumulative price drop of nearly 60%. The dumping of imported products from Europe has caused damage to China's domestic industrial production and operation. According to Chinese laws and WTO rules, the relevant applications meet the conditions for initiating anti-dumping investigations. China will conduct investigations in accordance with the law and regulations, fully protect the rights of all stakeholders, and make objective and fair judgments.

It should be emphasized that China has always adhered to a cautious and restrained stance in the field of trade remedies. At the same time, since 2025, the European Union has launched 28 trade remedy investigations against China, of which about 50% are related to chemical products, especially in recent times when it has launched three consecutive investigations against Chinese chemical products such as polyvinyl chloride. The Chinese side has repeatedly reiterated that the EU needs to face up to the economic and trade issues it faces and resolve each other's concerns through dialogue and consultation.
