'Guangdong car southbound' customs clearance exceeds 10000 yuan, further expands, 5 cities in the Greater Bay Area are about to join the southbound 'circle of friends'

According to the implementation plan of both Guangdong and Hong Kong, starting from June, the "Guangdong Car Southbound" Hong Kong policy will gradually expand its coverage in stages. Based on the first four cities of Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Jiangmen, and Zhongshan, it will be promoted to nine cities in Guangdong Province, including five new cities of Shenzhen, Foshan, Dongguan, Huizhou, and Zhaoqing. Both sides will continue to evaluate the effectiveness of the policy and gradually promote it to 21 cities in Guangdong Province. The prospect of self driving in the Bay Area is promising.

The Hong Kong policy of "Guangdong cars heading south" is divided into two policies: the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port Automated Parking Lot Policy and the Guangdong car entry policy into the urban area of Hong Kong. Starting from 9:00 am on June 9th, the Hong Kong Airport Authority began accepting applications from Guangdong private car owners in five newly added cities to book parking spaces at the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port Automated Parking Lot. Starting from 12:00 am on June 15th, approved Guangdong private car owners can drive through the Zhuhai Highway Port of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge into the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port Automated Parking Lot and transfer to a plane at the Hong Kong International Airport after parking. In terms of entering the urban areas of Hong Kong, from 9:00 am on June 9th to 24:00 on June 20th, Guangdong private car owners who meet the conditions for entering the urban areas of Hong Kong in the five newly added cities can register to participate in the July quota (calculated based on 200 daily applications and 23 working days, a total of 4600) lottery. The lottery will be held at 10:00 am on June 23rd, and the application materials for winning car owners will be accepted at 9:00 am on June 29th; Starting from 00:00 on July 25th, approved private car owners from Guangdong can drive into the urban area of Hong Kong via the Zhuhai Highway Port of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge after successfully making an appointment.

As an important convenient measure for the connectivity of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, the "Guangdong Car Southbound" policy has been implemented since November 15, 2025, and has achieved good results. According to statistics from Gongbei Customs, since the implementation of the policy six months ago (as of May 31), the customs have supervised over 13000 inbound and outbound vehicles of "Guangdong vehicles heading south". This policy is mutually linked and complementary to the policies of "Hong Kong cars heading north" and "Australian cars heading north". Data shows that in the first quarter of this year, the daily average number of vehicles passing through the Daqiao Port has exceeded 19000.

The policy dividend continues to be released, and the popularity of cross-border travel is rising. During this year's May Day holiday, almost every day full bookings were made for the "Guangdong southbound" vehicles entering the urban area of Hong Kong. With the opening of the second batch of cities, the coverage, audience, and travel demand of the "Guangdong Bus Southbound" policy will see comprehensive growth. The traffic flow and passenger flow at ports will continue to rise, and higher requirements will be put forward for customs clearance efficiency.

We have set up 5 dedicated lanes in each direction of entry and exit, continuously promoting the upgrade of the 'one-stop' inspection and release system, opening up data sharing channels, and achieving 'one stop for vehicles and one release for the system', "said Wu Wei, Deputy Director of the Customs Supervision Department of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge."
