According to statistics, in the first 11 months of this year, Rizhao Port imported over 9 million cubic meters of logs.

The abundant import of timber resources has given rise to wood processing enterprises of all sizes. When imported wood is transported to local wood processing enterprises, each part of the wood has its own mission. Large materials are used to process furniture, small materials are used to make children's toys, and scraps are made into wooden nails for fixing components. The initial wood processing industry has also taken the initiative to transform, effectively driving the wood industry chain to extend downstream deep processing and empowering value-added products.

When imported timber has transformed from a "passerby" to a driving force for the development of industrial clusters, Rizhao has also achieved the integrated development of "port industry city".

Faced with the increasing business volume at the port, Rizhao Customs has further strengthened cooperation between customs and ports, implemented multiple measures such as appointment clearance, priority inspection, and rapid testing, continuously optimized the "two-step declaration" clearance mode for imported timber quarantine, and ensured smooth clearance of imported logs. Supporting Rizhao to build a new wood logistics channel of "foreign import storage fumigation land (inland) logistics park processing", upgrading Rizhao from an important gateway relying on imported logs to a "fertile ground" for deep wood processing. The annual processing output value of the wood industry reaches 12 billion yuan, directly driving employment for more than 20000 people.

Data shows that in the first 11 months of this year, Rizhao Customs has supervised the export of furniture and its parts worth 900 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 9.4%. (Lu Heng/Wen)
