Promoting the construction of a community with a shared future between China and Thailand and achieving new results (Ambassador's essay)
China and Thailand are good neighbors, good friends, good relatives, and good partners. The two countries adhere to mutual respect, equal treatment, and sincere mutual trust. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 50 years ago, the relationship between the two countries has maintained healthy and stable development, and the concept of "China Thailand One Family" has deeply rooted in people's hearts, becoming a model of peaceful coexistence and common development between countries.
High level exchanges lead to strategic mutual trust between China and Thailand. King Vajiralongkorn has long supported the friendship between China and Thailand, playing a special and important role in inheriting the friendship between the two countries and promoting the development of bilateral relations. Many members of the Thai royal family actively promote friendly exchanges between the two sides.
Mutually beneficial cooperation promotes the common development of China and Thailand. China has maintained its position as Thailand's largest trading partner for 12 consecutive years and is Thailand's largest export market for agricultural products and fruits. In the first three quarters of 2025, the bilateral trade volume between China and Thailand reached 114.3 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 17%. Thailand participated as the guest country in the 8th China International Import Expo. For many years, the intended transaction volume of the Thai side at the CIIE has been among the top in ASEAN countries. The China Thailand Railway is the flagship project of the high-quality joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" between the two countries. The Bangkok Nakhon Ratchasima section of the first phase project is accelerating, steadily driving local development. Chinese enterprises' investment in Thailand continues to grow, adhering to the concept of "serving Thailand in Thailand" and cooperating with the Thai side for mutual benefit.
Cultural exchanges strengthen the foundation of people to people connectivity between China and Thailand. Thailand is one of the busiest places for overseas Spring Festival, and the "Happy Spring Festival" event in Bangkok's Chinatown has been held continuously for many years. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, the China Thailand Ice Hockey Friendship Tournament was held in Thailand. The Buddha Tooth Relic from Lingguang Temple in Beijing was enshrined in Thailand, the Chinese polar research icebreaker "Snow Dragon 2" made its first visit to Thailand, the Chinese Navy's 83 ship fleet visited Thailand, and performances by the Chinese Acrobatic Troupe and the overseas premiere of the Chinese ballet "Dream of the Red Tower" were held in Thailand. A series of exciting and diverse activities continue to enhance the friendly relationship between the two peoples.
China and Thailand share broad common interests and similar positions in international affairs, jointly defending international fairness and justice. Thailand actively supports China's global development initiative, global security initiative, global civilization initiative, and global governance initiative. With strong support from China, Thailand became one of the first BRICS partner countries. As a co advocate of the Lancang Mekong Cooperation mechanism, China supports Thailand in hosting the 5th Lancang Mekong Cooperation Leaders' Meeting and working together to build a community of shared future for Lancang Mekong countries towards peace and prosperity. China is willing to work with Thailand to promote the early entry into force and implementation of the China ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0 Upgrade Protocol, adding new impetus to regional economic integration.
Currently, the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Thailand is operating at a high level, and the relationship between the two countries is at its best in history. Various sectors of Thai society continue to discuss the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, which outlines the development blueprint for the 15th Five Year Plan. They are optimistic about China's development opportunities and willing to work hand in hand with China to explore broader prospects for cooperation.
Looking ahead to the future, China is willing to work with Thailand to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, continue the traditional friendship, consolidate political mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and promote the construction of a community with a shared future between China and Thailand to achieve new results.
