The Ministry of Foreign Affairs responds to the US threat to impose 100% tariffs on Canadian imports
Beijing, January 26 (Xinhua) -- US President Trump recently stated that if Canada reaches a trade agreement with China, the US will impose 100% tariffs on all Canadian imports. Regarding this, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated at a regular press conference on the 26th that China advocates that countries should handle their relations with each other in a win-win rather than zero sum manner, and in a cooperative rather than confrontational manner. The construction of a new type of strategic partnership between China and Canada has made specific arrangements for the proper resolution of economic and trade issues between the two countries, reflecting the spirit of equal treatment, openness and inclusiveness, peaceful cooperation, and shared benefits. It does not target any third party, is in line with the common interests of the two peoples, and is also conducive to world peace, stability, development, and prosperity.
