As the years roll on, Tianjin, the land of Tianjin, is brimming with new vitality. As a key economic hub in the north and a national advanced manufacturing and research and development base, Tianjin has tailored its development to local conditions, fostering new productive forces. It is accelerating its efforts to cultivate future industries, expand emerging industries, and consolidate and enhance traditional industries. Facing the "15th Five-Year Plan", Tianjin is striving to make a good start and continuously stimulate new momentum and vitality for economic development.

Aim at new tracks and achieve new breakthroughs in future industries

With just millimeter-sized artificially cultivated brain-like tissues, robots can make autonomous decisions and navigate obstacles. This futuristic scenario of "biological center + mechanical control" has become a reality in the laboratory of Tianjin University.

This on-chip brain-computer interface intelligent interaction system, led by the Haihe Laboratory team specializing in brain-computer interaction and human-machine integration, and collaboratively developed by teams including the Southern University of Science and Technology, is capable of achieving "thought control" through cell-driven mechanisms. Professor Li Xiaohong from the Tianjin University School of Medicine stated that the team is currently focusing on optimizing the technology and its practical application.

Just one kilometer away from the laboratory, at the research and development base of Heyuan Biotechnology Co., Ltd., the slowly swaying bioreactors are nurturing the hope of survival for blood cancer patients.

As a company focusing on cell therapy, Heyuan Biology has had two domestically produced CAR-T drug indications approved for marketing since its establishment over seven years ago. Lulu Lu, the founder and CEO of Heyuan Biology, is full of confidence for the future: "In the new year, the company will deeply cultivate in aspects such as capacity expansion and advancing global layout."

In recent years, Tianjin has accelerated its layout of future industries, continuously investing in specialized fields such as synthetic biology and brain-computer interfaces. It has been approved to establish 29 national key laboratories and 7 Haihe laboratories in areas like cell ecology, advanced computing, and key software. The total number of national and ministerial-level innovation platforms has reached nearly 280. Nowadays, Tianjin is continuously making new breakthroughs in key technological fields such as intelligent computing chips, cell and gene therapy.

Moreover, Tianjin is rich in scientific and educational resources. The Tiankai High-Tech Education and Innovation Park, which has been vigorously developed, accelerates the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and the incubation of technology enterprises, with a total of over 4,500 registered enterprises.

"Tianjin will seize the opportunity presented by the expansion of the Beijing (Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei) International Science and Technology Innovation Center, focus on the deep integration of scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation, strengthen the awareness of breaking through difficulties, systematically promote progress, and plan and implement a series of reform measures, major projects, and innovative tasks. This will help us make a good start and lay a solid foundation for the '15th Five-Year Plan'," said Cui Zhenping, Director of the Tianjin Science and Technology Bureau.

Build new clusters, and emerging industries will accumulate new momentum

"The completion of Lenovo (Tianjin) Innovation Park is of extraordinary significance to Lenovo's development in Tianjin," said Dai Jingtong, Vice President of Lenovo Group and General Manager of China Platform. The commissioning of the park marks the completion of a key move in the group's strategic layout in Tianjin, forming an ecosystem of "one headquarters, two parks, and four centers".

Lenovo Group has also jointly formulated the "Three-Year Production Value Doubling Plan" with the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone, where the park is located, striving to achieve a production value breakthrough of 30 billion yuan for the Lenovo (Tianjin) Innovation Industrial Park by 2028.

Not long ago, good news also came from Tianjin Yunyao Aerospace Technology Co., Ltd., a commercial meteorological satellite enterprise: the ship energy efficiency data management docking system it developed passed the acceptance inspection of the China Classification Society and joined the data alliance of the ship and ocean engineering industry. "This is another highlight moment for the company," said Li Fenghui, the company's chairman.

This is attributed to the effective measures introduced by Tianjin, which focus on industrial chains. Tianjin has jointly cultivated "six chains" and issued investment attraction plans for six industrial chain maps, including hydrogen energy and biomedicine. It has also jointly established "five clusters" and taken the lead in cultivating a new generation of information technology application innovation clusters, collaborating to build five industrial clusters in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, including life health and integrated circuits. Data shows that during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the output value of Tianjin's emerging industries accounted for 30% of the proportion of above-scale industries.

Beads string together to form a chain, and strengths gather to form a group. Nowadays, Tianjin is accelerating the formation of an aerospace industry development pattern represented by large aircraft, helicopters, drones, large rockets, satellites, and space stations, known as the "three aircraft, one rocket, one satellite, and one space station" model. With a series of innovation carriers such as the Blood Research Institute, Pharmaceutical Research Institute, and Industrial Biotechnology Institute, Tianjin's biomedical industry, which gathers a number of industry leaders like Tasly, Hongri Pharmaceutical, and Novo Nordisk, is rapidly emerging

"Tianjin will adhere to high-end development, focus on improving the modern industrial system, persist in stabilizing growth, adjusting structure, grasping innovation, and cultivating momentum, and continue to promote the optimization and upgrading of industrial structure," said Xia Qinglin, Director of the Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology.

Take the path of transformation, and traditional industries will be rejuvenated

Inside the workshop of the Tianjin Intelligent Manufacturing Base of CNOOC Engineering, a scene distinct from traditional production methods immediately catches the eye: huge welding machines are working "intently", with only welding sparks visible and no smoke or dust; in the area, there are few workers, and automatic guided transport vehicles and gantry cranes have become the protagonists

This "smart factory" with multiple intelligent workshops has witnessed the evolution of traditional industrial development concepts in Tianjin. As the Deputy General Manager of Tianjin Intelligent Manufacturing Branch of Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd., Wang Jinyuan has a more authoritative voice on this matter. Through the introduction of intelligent equipment and lean energy management and control, the entire factory can save more than 3 million kWh of electricity, 7,000 cubic meters of water, and reduce carbon emissions by more than 2,000 tons throughout the year.

"Di Yang" brand wool yarn is a time-honored Chinese brand founded by patriotic industrialist Song Fenqing in Tianjin in 1932. This brand's products are owned by Tianjin Textile Group (Holdings) Co., Ltd. Upon entering the "Di Yang" smart manufacturing workshop, one is greeted by a refreshing experience, from automatic garment cutting machines to intelligent hanging systems, the smart production line is truly eye-opening.

"We have created a lifestyle aesthetics space for Di Yang, allowing traditional time-honored brands to radiate new vitality and productivity in the age of intelligence," said Ge Chuanbing, Chairman of Tianjin Textile Group.

The wool yarn production line has undergone intelligent transformation, and a new automated ink bag production workshop has been established for ostrich ink... The "digital and smart revitalization" of time-honored brands is a microcosm of Tianjin's "digital and real integration". In the first half of 2025, the revenue of Tianjin's core digital economy industries increased by 12.8% year-on-year.

Currently, Tianjin boasts 243 national-level green manufacturing units, and 12 key industrial chains, including information technology and innovation, integrated circuits, and the Internet of Vehicles, are accelerating their transformation towards high-end, intelligent, and green development, continuously enhancing industrial competitiveness.

Xia Qinglin said that in the future, Tianjin will continue to take "artificial intelligence + manufacturing" as the main line, deepen the application of digital technology empowerment, and promote the deep integration of informatization and industrialization.
