On January 9th, Hainan Airlines flight HU782 (Vienna Chengdu Tianfu) landed at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. 12 passengers heading to Beijing, Shenzhen, Sanya and other places were transferred from the international to domestic dedicated channel to the domestic boarding gate, and the entire journey only took 25 minutes. The customs inspection procedures for the checked baggage of this batch of passengers are fully entrusted by the airline and directly transported to the luggage compartment of the next flight. This marks the official opening of Hainan Airlines' international round-trip flight service, which not only fills the gap in round-trip services from Chengdu to Central and Eastern Europe, but also builds an efficient air passage connecting the western inland and the European hinterland.
International connecting flights refer to the business model in which international transit passengers receive two boarding passes for both international and domestic segments at once when checking in at the departure station, and directly check their luggage to the final destination station. This mode implements "one ticket to the end, luggage hanging directly", greatly optimizing the transfer process.
The person in charge of ground services at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport stated that Hainan Airlines has opened international connecting flights from Chengdu Tianfu to Vienna, providing passengers with a seamless transit experience of "one security check, worry free throughout the entire journey". The relevant person in charge of customs at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, which is under the jurisdiction of Chengdu Customs, said, "We have comprehensively collected opinions and suggestions from airlines and passengers on transit facilitation, followed up and connected with the demand for new international connecting flights throughout the process, and helped airlines meet the regulatory and compliance requirements for connecting flights. At the same time, through the connecting flight data sharing platform, we have real-time communication with airport operators, airlines and other entities to ensure the order of connecting flight operations
International connecting flights are an important lever to enhance the level of airport hubs. As of now, Chengdu Tianfu International Airport has opened 38 international connecting flights, doubling the number since the end of 2024, covering multiple core cities in Asia, Europe, America, and Oceania, injecting strong momentum into the construction of Chengdu's international aviation hub. The person in charge of Chengdu Port Logistics Office introduced that by 2025, the international passenger volume of Chengdu Tianfu International Airport will reach 410000, a year-on-year increase of 109%.
