Ningbo Zhoushan Port opens new year with a new direct route to Australia, creating a trade express line

Yesterday afternoon, the "Mediterranean Jessinia" ship slowly sailed into berth 2 of Chuanshan Port Area in Zhoushan Port, Ningbo, amidst the long sound of its horn. Before berthing, the ship and cargo information have been reviewed in advance. This morning, after completing the loading of 2000 TEUs of electronic, chemical, and daily necessities goods in Ningbo, the ship departed directly for Brisbane Port in Australia. This marks the official opening of the Mediterranean Shipping Company's Australian route. This route is the first new route of Ningbo Zhoushan Port in 2026, and also a joint "the Belt and Road" route.
According to the plan, the route will deploy 7 vessels with a capacity of 4000 TEUs, operating on a weekly basis, and will bring nearly 3600 TEUs of export throughput to Ningbo Port every month.
This route departs from Qingdao Port, passes through Shanghai Port and Ningbo Zhoushan Port, and stops at Brisbane Port and Sydney Port in Australia. It can directly transport daily necessities, electronic products, chemical products, and building materials from Ningbo and surrounding areas to the two major gateway cities in Australia.
Australia has always been one of the overseas markets that domestic enterprises focus on. Traditional air routes in the past often faced the dilemma of "ship to port, business opportunities passing" during peak seasons due to the large number of ports of call and long voyage.
Zhang Guanghao, Deputy Manager of the Field Department of China Ningbo Ocean Shipping Agency Co., Ltd., introduced that unlike traditional Australian routes, this new route is docked at important domestic hub ports, and after receiving local and transit goods, it flies directly to Australia, reducing transportation time from about 20 days to 14 days, significantly improving the supply chain efficiency of China Australia trade, and accurately connecting with the Spring Festival stocking peak.
The opening of the new route is due to the high recognition of Ningbo's business environment and market vitality by shipping companies. Zhang Guanghao stated that the process of determining the first voyage vessel has gone through many twists and turns, and coupled with the frequent impact of cold air in recent times, the berthing plan has been adjusted multiple times, which has brought significant pressure to the first voyage work.
Ningbo Customs takes the initiative to provide forward service, timely grasps the dynamics and operation plans of ships through the coordination mechanism of "customs, port, goods, and enterprises", and customizes and optimizes the ship quarantine mode and comprehensive service guarantee plan "one-on-one" according to the actual situation.
The service guarantee of customs has reduced the waiting time for operations, and the port has also 'cut efficiency' from every link, helping enterprises significantly reduce logistics costs through efficient operation, "said Pan Jintao, the duty manager of the operation department of Ningbo Zhoushan Port North Sanji Company.
With the start of operation of this route, the total number of container routes at Ningbo Zhoushan Port has reached 309, connecting over 700 ports in more than 200 countries and regions worldwide, and ranking second in the world in terms of port connectivity index. Among them, there are 256 international routes, including 132 "the Belt and Road" routes.
