From January to October, Fujian's imports and exports to Thailand exceeded 40 billion yuan
Thailand is an important trading partner of Fujian, and the economic and trade cooperation between the two sides is steadily advancing. According to Xiamen Customs statistics, the annual trade volume between Fujian and Thailand has expanded from over 10 billion yuan in 2009 to 47.39 billion yuan in 2024, with an average annual growth rate of 10.6%. From January to October this year, Fujian's imports and exports to Thailand exceeded 40 billion yuan, reaching 40.16 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.7%. Among them, exports were the main focus, with an export scale exceeding 30 billion yuan, reaching 30.44 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.1%; Imports amounted to 9.72 billion yuan, a slight decrease of 1.1% year-on-year.
Private enterprises are the largest operating entities in Fujian's trade with Thailand. Data shows that from January to October, private enterprises in Fujian Province imported and exported 26.43 billion yuan to Thailand, accounting for 65.8% of the province's total import and export value to Thailand during the same period. During the same period, foreign-invested enterprises and state-owned enterprises in Fujian performed well, with imports and exports to Thailand reaching 8.9 billion yuan and 4.82 billion yuan, respectively, an increase of 15.1% and 53.5% year-on-year.
From the perspective of commodity structure, there is a clear complementarity in the economic and trade exchanges between Fujian and Thailand. In terms of exports, mechanical and electrical products are the main focus. According to officials from Xiamen Customs, from January to October, Fujian exported 14.45 billion yuan worth of mechanical and electrical products to Thailand, a year-on-year increase of 33.4%, accounting for 47.5% of the province's total export value to Thailand during the same period, driving the province's export growth to Thailand by 12.8 percentage points; Among them, the export of precision machinery such as flat panel display modules, parts for audio and video equipment, electrical equipment, and electronic components is booming, with export values of 1.92 billion yuan, 1.17 billion yuan, 1.06 billion yuan, and 960 million yuan respectively, an increase of 16.4%, 2.5 times, 35.5%, and 12.7% year-on-year, accounting for a total of 16.8%.
Imported goods are mainly characterized by specialty products. According to Xiamen Customs statistics, from January to October, Fujian imported agricultural products from Thailand worth 3.87 billion yuan, accounting for 39.8% of the province's total import value from Thailand during the same period. Among them, the main imports of cassava and cassava starch amounted to 2.04 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 76.6%, driving the province's imports from Thailand to increase by 9 percentage points; Tropical fruits such as longan, durian, and mangosteen are also popular among consumers in Fujian, with import values from Thailand reaching 310 million yuan, 240 million yuan, and 65.63 million yuan, respectively. During the same period, Fujian imported natural and synthetic rubber from Thailand worth 1.29 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.1 times, accounting for 13.2%.
