Rwanda looks forward to using beef oil fruits to gain access to China and boost agricultural exports

According to the Chinese Embassy in Rwanda, China and Rwanda recently signed a protocol on plant quarantine requirements for fresh Rwandan avocados (avocados) exported to China. Rwandan industry insiders look forward to this move opening up the Chinese market for Rwandan avocados and bringing new opportunities and momentum to the export of Rwandan agricultural products.

The Embassy of Rwanda in China posted on social media X that the agreement will allow high-quality Rwandan avocados to enter the Chinese market, expand the variety of agricultural products exported from Rwanda to China, and tap into the Chinese market with 1.4 billion consumers.

The access of Rwandan avocados to China will significantly increase our export volume. We expect an increase in export demand and look forward to working together with our Chinese partners, "Angel Uvantaige, founder and head of Bahagai Food Company, a Rwandan agricultural product export enterprise, told reporters.

Uwantaigai said that there is enormous potential for growth in economic and trade cooperation between Rwanda and China. His company is actively seeking to promote Rwandan products, represented by avocados, to the Chinese market through platforms such as the China International Import Expo.

We have full confidence in the Chinese market and look forward to soon showcasing our avocados to Chinese consumers, "she told reporters. China's non-zero tariff policy has made it more convenient for Rwandan products to be exported to China, enhancing product competitiveness.

Robert Lukundo, President of the Rwanda Horticultural Exporters Association, recently stated in an interview with local media that the entry of Rwandan avocados into the Chinese market will bring significant breakthroughs to local exporters. "The Chinese market is expected to become one of the main export destinations for Rwandan avocados," he said. "We are currently mainly exporting to Dubai and some parts of Europe by air. We are exploring sea freight channels to reduce export costs

Rwandan farmer Teogane Tuwahirva began planting avocados in 2022, covering an area of over two hectares. He said that the Chinese market represents an "excellent opportunity" and "farmers are ready for this market".

Rwandan economic analyst Tedi Kaberuka recently stated in an interview with Xinhua News Agency that the signing of the avocado export agreement to China is an important step in deepening bilateral trade relations.

Kaberuka believes that the agreement will make Rwanda's exports to China more diversified and help increase the added value of Rwanda's agricultural products. Through this agreement, Rwandan avocados have been able to enter one of the most dynamic consumer markets in the world

In recent years, with the help of platforms such as the China International Import Expo and the China Africa Economic and Trade Expo, Rwanda's agricultural products such as coffee, chili peppers, and tea have become increasingly popular among Chinese consumers. Data shows that in 2024, the bilateral trade volume between China and Rwanda was 669 million US dollars, an increase of 21.4% year-on-year, of which China imported 160 million US dollars, an increase of 22.5% year-on-year.
