On November 6th, a batch of Chilean fresh cherries weighing 93.8 tons passed customs clearance smoothly after being quickly inspected and released by Shenzhen Bao'an Airport Customs. This batch of "Southern Hemisphere rubies" that span half the world completed their journey from Chilean orchards to major fruit supermarkets in Shenzhen and Guangzhou within three days, grabbing the "freshness" and putting them on the dining tables of citizens, officially kicking off the peak season for Chilean cherry imports.
As the "star fruit" of autumn and winter seasons, Chilean cherries are highly favored due to their unique geographical advantages. At present, Chile in the southern hemisphere is in summer, with sufficient sunlight and a large temperature difference between day and night, allowing cherries to accumulate full sugar content. The fruit color is deep red and transparent, perfectly filling the supply gap of fresh fruits in autumn and winter in the northern hemisphere and becoming the preferred choice for seasonal consumption by citizens.
Fresh cherries have a short shelf life, and every minute of transportation and customs clearance is important, "said Zhao Yibin, Deputy General Manager of Shanghai Huizhan International Trade Co., Ltd
After the fresh cherries land, customs officers conduct on-site inspections of the batch of cherries in accordance with the requirements of imported fruit inspection and quarantine, carefully checking the freshness of the fruits, whether they carry harmful organisms, and strictly reviewing accompanying documents such as plant quarantine certificates and certificates of origin to ensure "traceability of origin and controllable quality".
Imported fruits by air have extremely high requirements for customs clearance time. Our customs has launched a customized service for imported fruit enterprises with "one enterprise, one policy", scientifically coordinated and increased manpower, and adopted convenient measures such as "two-stage access" and "7 × 24-hour customs clearance" to achieve "instant inspection and release" of imported fruits, reducing the average customs clearance time of imported fruits by 30% upon arrival at the port, "said Tan Minrui, Deputy Director of the Comprehensive Business Department of Shenzhen Bao'an Airport Customs.
Shenzhen Customs will continue to optimize customs clearance services to ensure efficient and safe import of various seasonal fruits, allowing citizens to enjoy fresh and delicious food from around the world right at their doorstep.
In the first ten months of this year, 3740.32 tons of fruits with a value of approximately 185 million yuan were imported through the Shenzhen Airport port. (Ye Junchao/Text)
