EU Ukraine trade upgrade agreement officially comes into effect
On October 29th local time, the European Commission issued a statement stating that the upgraded EU Ukraine Deep Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement (DCFTA) will officially come into effect from the 29th. The upgraded agreement restricts the EU's imports of sensitive agricultural products, incorporates strong new safeguard clauses, and stipulates the coordination and consistency of production standards between Ukraine and the EU.
On October 13th, the European Council issued a statement stating that it had voted to pass a resolution agreeing to reduce or eliminate tariffs on Ukrainian agricultural products such as dairy products, fresh fruits and vegetables, and meat in the EU Ukraine Joint Commission. This resolution stems from the preliminary agreement reached by both parties on June 30, 2025, regarding the review of the EU Ukraine comprehensive free trade area, with the aim of building a long-term mutually beneficial trade framework.
