UAE launches alternative logistics channels to address disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz

Dubai, September 8 (Xinhua) -- UAE Foreign Trade Minister Sani Zeyoudi said on the 8th that in the face of the challenges brought by the obstruction of passage through the Strait of Hormuz, the UAE has launched multiple alternative logistics channels and accelerated the construction of ports on the east coast. Relevant measures will be included in the country's long-term strategic layout.

Zeyoudi said at a forum held in Abu Dhabi on the same day that the geopolitical situation in the region has undergone profound changes since the beginning of this year, posing "more direct and serious challenges" to the global supply chain. After shipping was blocked in the Strait of Hormuz, the United Arab Emirates quickly took measures to ensure smooth trade and launched a regional logistics channel connecting the Arabian Gulf, Red Sea, and Gulf of Oman. In addition, the United Arab Emirates is also cooperating with Oman to transfer goods to the UAE through the ports of Suhar and Dukum.

He also said that the United Arab Emirates is accelerating the construction of east coast ports such as Khorfakan, Fujairah, and Diba, and is putting into operation new energy pipelines to connect its energy resources with the international market.

Zeyudi stated that these measures are not short-term response plans, but rather long-term strategic adjustments for the UAE's future development. The UAE will continue to expand its network of trade and investment partners, accelerate energy transformation, invest in future industries, and further consolidate its position as a global hub for trade and investment.
