US Customs has refunded approximately $100 billion in tariffs

New York, August 4 (Xinhua) - Customs and Border Protection officials under the US Department of Homeland Security disclosed data to the US International Trade Court on the 4th that the US Customs has refunded about $100 billion in tariffs previously imposed under the US International Emergency Economic Powers Act.

US Customs and Border Protection officials have stated that over $128 billion in tariff refund requests have been processed. Currently, the refunded amount accounts for approximately 60% of the $165 billion in tariffs imposed by the Trump administration citing this law.

According to a ruling by the US Supreme Court in February this year, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act does not authorize the President to impose large-scale tariffs. The US International Trade Court subsequently ordered customs to process the relevant refund. The Customs and Border Protection launched the first phase of refund work on April 20th, and the first batch of refunds will be issued around May 11th.
