The head of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Commerce answered questions from reporters about the WTO's release of the report of the Expert Group on the WTO dispute case against Türkiye's electric vehicles and other vehicle restrictions

A reporter asked: On July 28, Geneva time, the WTO released the report of the Expert Panel on the WTO dispute case between China and Türkiye over restrictions on electric vehicles and other vehicles. What is China's comment on this?

A: We have noticed that the WTO has distributed the report of the expert group on the case of China v. Türkiye on restrictions on electric vehicles and other vehicles (case number: DS629). The expert group supports China's claim and rules that Turkey's measures involved in the case violate WTO rules. The Chinese side welcomes this ruling.

Since 2023, Turkey has taken restrictive measures such as additional tariffs and import licenses on electric and hybrid vehicles exported to China, violating multilateral trade rules such as binding tariffs, national treatment, and most favored nation treatment, seriously damaging China's legitimate trade interests and China Turkey economic and trade relations. The Chinese side urges Turkey to respect the ruling of the World Trade Organization expert group, take practical actions, and rectify the violations as soon as possible.

At the same time, I would like to point out that China firmly adheres to a mutually beneficial and win-win opening-up strategy, and firmly upholds the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization as its core. China is willing to continuously improve the quality and level of trade and investment cooperation in areas such as new energy vehicles with all parties on the basis of complying with multilateral trade rules, and achieve common development.
