Hubei Daily: The average annual growth rate of trade between Hubei and Hong Kong is 9%, and imports and exports are accelerating their transformation towards high-end and intelligent industries

Hong Kong is a key link for Hubei to integrate into the global economy. Since the return of Hong Kong, the economic and trade cooperation between Hubei and Hong Kong has continued to deepen, with a steady increase in trade scale and continuous optimization of structure, accelerating the transformation towards high-end and intelligent industries.

According to Wuhan Customs statistics, from 1997 to 2025, the total import and export value of Hubei to ports increased from 5.01 billion yuan to 45.97 billion yuan, a cumulative increase of 8.2 times, with an average annual growth rate of 9%. Port trade accounted for about 10% of Hubei's total import and export volume, becoming an important pillar of Hubei's foreign trade.

The optimization of trade structure has achieved significant results. The proportion of electromechanical products has significantly increased from 13.3% to 76.2%, highlighting the characteristics of high-end and intelligent transformation. In the first five months of this year, driven by global demand for computing infrastructure, Hubei exported 37.14 billion yuan of AI related products such as fiber optic cables to Hong Kong, a year-on-year increase of 141.5%, accounting for more than 90% of the total trade volume with Hong Kong.

Taking Lenovo Mobile Communications Trading (Wuhan) Co., Ltd. as an example, relying on the advantages of Wuhan's inland open highland and Hong Kong's international shipping center, coupled with efficient customs services, the company's exports to Hong Kong continue to rise. On June 29th, a batch of mobile phones worth 5.54 million yuan from the company successfully cleared customs and arrived in Hong Kong, and the speed of customs clearance directly transformed into market competitiveness.

In terms of ensuring the supply of Hong Kong's livelihood, Hubei's supply of fresh agricultural products to Hong Kong has efficient customs clearance and stable supply. In the first five months of this year, Wuhan Customs supervised the supply of 10800 live animals to Hong Kong and Macao, a year-on-year increase of 41.7%.
