UK partially opens up import of refined oil products from 'third country processing of Russian crude oil'

London, May 19 (Xinhua) -- The British government issued a general trade permit on May 19, officially allowing the import of diesel and aviation fuel processed from Russian crude oil by third countries.

This license is issued by the UK Department for Business and Trade and applies to specific diesel and aviation fuel products refined from Russian crude oil outside of Russia. It also permits supporting services and related business operations related to the import of such oil products.

The UK government's announcement shows that the approved import categories are two types of diesel and one type of aviation fuel. The announcement clearly requires relevant business entities to properly retain complete transaction records for verification.

Since the escalation of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022, the United Kingdom has imposed several rounds of sanctions on Russia, including restrictions on the import of Russian crude oil and petroleum products. The issuance of trade permits this time is equivalent to setting up limited exemptions within the framework of sanctions, opening up import channels for some Russian crude oil products processed by third countries.
