China News Service: The value of imported African agricultural products through Shanghai Port will increase by over 20% year-on-year in 2025
According to statistics released by Shanghai Customs on the 13th, the value of African agricultural products imported through Shanghai Port in 2025 is 10.03 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 25.3%.
On the evening of February 9th, the EK304 flight carrying 1620 kilograms of South African plums successfully arrived at Shanghai Pudong International Airport. This is the first batch of African produced plums imported through general trade at Shanghai Port.
With the promotion of high-quality development of the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road", China Africa economic and trade cooperation continues to deepen, and more and more African fresh fruits enter the Chinese market. Currently, 24 types of fruits from 9 countries in Africa have been granted quarantine access by China. In November 2025, the General Administration of Customs of China officially issued a notice on the quarantine requirements for imported fresh fruit fruits from South Africa. High quality fresh fruit fruits such as peaches, peaches, plums, apricots, and plums from the "Rainbow Country" have obtained a "pass" to enter the Chinese market.
For fresh agricultural products that emphasize timeliness, the speed of customs clearance directly affects the quality and value of the goods. Shanghai Customs continues to optimize the business environment, further promoting the iterative upgrading of regulatory measures towards digitization and intelligence, and making it more convenient for imported fruits to clear customs. According to Xie Min, Deputy Director of Inspection Department 7 at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport Customs Control Inspection Office, for fresh fruit products, the customs has opened a green channel and relied on intelligent systems to achieve paperless and rapid verification of certificates and accompanying documents, greatly improving customs clearance efficiency and ensuring the safety and timely entry of fresh goods into the Chinese market.
In recent years, Shanghai Customs has continued to implement open access, actively serving the upgrading needs of domestic consumption, focusing on stabilizing policies and improving efficiency, and promoting Shanghai to become the "first" port of entry for newly admitted fruits. From the first import of dried chili peppers in Uganda, to the fragrance of coffee beans in Ethiopia and Kenya in China, and now the emergence of stone fruits in South Africa, the trade of non-agricultural products between China and Africa is showing strong growth momentum and huge development potential.
